Sunderland vs Burnley Betting Tips
Stadium of Light
Sunderland get an immediate chance of retribution when they host Burnley in a FA Cup third round tie on Saturday afternoon. The Black Cats were thrashed 4-1 at Turf Moor by the Clarets last Saturday when the sides faced off in a Premier League encounter. Monday’s 2-2 draw against league title contenders Liverpool will obviously help Sunderland’s cause and they will look for a repeating performance to see off Burnley at home turf. Daniel Defoe scored twice from the spot to make the Merseysiders drop points but it wasn’t just a touch of luck that they managed to salvage something from the match. Sunderland organized some menacing attacks throughout the game to disrupt the Liverpool backline and also dropped in numbers to defend their goalpost against one of the most formidable attacking side of the league.
Burnley’s Jekyll and Hyde form continued on Monday as they were bettered by a 10 man Manchester City. Outside Turf Moor Burnley have been contradictorily colorless but their away woes seemed to be finally over when they were handed a lucky break in the first half at Etihades. Fernandinho was sent off in the 34th minute for his reckless challenge on Icelandic winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson. But the visitors failed to take advantage of their one man surplus as City scored twice in the second half to steer the game away from them. Ben Mee pulled a goal back for Burnley but it proved too little too late as the game ended 2-1.
Burnley did trounce the Black Cats a few days ago but can they do it outside their comfort zone of Turf Moore? Not many will answer this question in the affirmative. The Clarets have only one point to show for their away trips this season, a statistic which tips the balance towards Sunderland for this particular fixture. Sunderland haven’t lost any of the last five games they have played against Burnley at home. We are calling this match a win for Sunderland.
