Leicester City vs Chelsea Betting Tips, Predictions, and Match Preview

Preview

The King Power stadium hosts the tie of the third round in the EFL League Cup as 2015 winners Chelsea travel to the Midlands.

Football betting tips for Leicester City vs Chelsea

Chelsea to win – 13/10 – Leicester will be playing their third game in under a week, while Chelsea’s lack of European football means the two clubs priorities this year will switch. Leicester have a greater need to rotate, and less squad quality in which to do it, making the London Blues favourites – 13/10 is a tempting price.

Five goals in the match – 9/1 – Chelsea’s first four league games saw 14 goals fly in, while Leicester’s match at Anfield saw five goals shared between the sides. Both teams strength this campaign has been in their attacking ranks, five goals is much more likely than 9/1 suggests.

Leicester vs Chelsea Football Tips

Football Tips: Recent form

Leicester’s convincing Champions League win at Club Brugge brought about a change in mood at the club where a hangover effect from last season’s remarkable title win threatened to linger. Only four points were won from their opening four league fixtures but their performance and result in Belgium was reminiscent of their finest form which saw them romp to the title.

Chelsea blasted away the cobwebs of their dismal mid-table finish last season by kicking off with three straight victories, with late goals arriving in each of their opening four matches. Antonio Conte has upped his side’s fitness levels, cohesion and belief as they look to become a force once more in England.

Football Predictions: Head-to-head

The two met twice last season in what were the final games for both Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink. The December loss in the Midlands saw Chelsea finally lose patience with the Portuguese boss after a miserable opening four months, while the final draw at Stamford Bridge was always going to herald the end of the Dutchman’s second spell.

Prior to that campaign, the Foxes form against Chelsea did not make for good reading – losing all eight of their previous meetings in a run stretching back to 2001. One of those meetings was in this competition back in 2007 – when Chelsea needed two late Frank Lampard goals to beat the Foxes in an enthralling 4-3 meeting – Gareth McAuley, DJ Campbell and Carl Cort grabbing the Leicester goals.
