Stoke City had been going through a series of ups and downs this seasons but they will be welcoming Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon on the back of a revitalizing win against Watford on Tuesday night. They ended a dreadful spell of five winless matches as Ryan Shawcross and Peter Crouch scored for the Potters and brought them three steps up to the 11th position. Stoke is popularly considered to be an intimidating place to visit for opposition teams, but this season, Stoke have managed to win only win four out eleven games at the bet365 stadium. Mark Hughes would hope his team manages to pick up their fifth home victory of the season to pave their road towards Wembley.
Wolverhampton Wanderers fans couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season as their team remained unbeaten in their first six matches of the season. But the Wolves were hit by a series of successive defeats afterwards which plunged them to the relegation zone. A couple of wins in December have brought them back to the green zone but they are still 5 points away from clear; a gap they would be looking forward to widen. The Wolves produced a vibrant display at Hillsborough last Monday but had to settle for a goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday as Joe Mason missed two close opportunities to net the ball.
PREDICTION
Stoke will be meeting the Wolves for the first time since 2012. The Potters have been the dominant side between the two in their recent meetings and they should be the favorites to win on Monday. Stoke are currently 11th in the Premier League, without a severe relegation threat but the prospect of European football doesn’t seem so bright either given the congested top half of the Premier League point table. This should prompt manager Mark Hughes to emphasize on the FA Cup and field a strong squad to ensure a 4th round pass. We are expecting a Stoke win with both teams to score.
