Marco Silva will have his first taste of English football when his side take on Paul Clement’s Swansea, who, coincidentally, is also a new managerial recruit, in a FA Cup third round clash on Saturday afternoon. Silva is tasked with the challenge of dragging Hull out of the relegation zone and a win against fellow strugglers Swansea could give them the necessary momentum to revive their below par season. Silva also faces the challenge of convincing a considerable group of Hull fans who have declared to boycott the matches believing a change in management is not sufficient to improve their current situation.
Paul Clement has taken charge of Swansea in a similar situation to his Saturday counterpart. Paul Clement replaced Bob Bradley to take charge of a team that are currently second from bottom at the league table and are fearful of losing their top-flight status. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich assistant manager saw his team pick up a vital win on Tuesday night against Crystal Palace. The 2-1 victory over Sam Allardyce’s men narrowed the gap between Swansea and the green zone to one point but it was first team manager Alan Curtis who had actually picked up the squad for the Palace game, which means the FA Cup encounter against Hull City will be Clement’s first game in charge.
PREDICTION
With two new managers in charge, it will be extremely difficult to forecast how this game will pan out. Hull City claimed the bragging rights when these two sides had met in August but the Tigers’ achievements have been microscopic since their dream start in August with three successive victories. The hosts have won only one of their last ten games in regular time at home but they managed to avoid defeat in four of their last five home games. Swansea have won three of their last eight games and have scored in five of their last seven away fixtures. Swansea can be backed to win this one but a safer bet will be to bet on both teams to score. Swansea and Hull are the highest conceding teams in the Premier League and have conceded 45 goals altogether in all competitions.
