West Ham will be targeting back to back victories to steer themselves farther away from the drop zone when a reeling Hull City come to London Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Slaven Bilic’s men were one of the surprise packages of an eventful last season but they’ve fallen far below expectation this time around and find themselves in the wrong side of the table. Last week has been an exceptionally better one for the Hammers as they picked up four points from two games, one of which was a daunting away trip to Anfield, and climbed up to the 15th position.
Hull City have become the common punching bag for Premier League sides lately as they managed to collect only 8 points in their last 10 outings. They went through their sixth consecutive loss on the road when they were mauled 3-0 by Tottenham last Wednesday. The Tigers failed to score a single goal in their last four trips which included visits to Sunderland and Middlesbrough. Mike Phelan would hope his team would be favored by a change of luck and return to winning ways against West Ham.
It’s unclear that Andy Carroll would be handed another start just three days after facing Burnley. The forward returned from a long term injury dismissal recently and might not be risked by Slaven Bilic for the Hull game. Simone Zaza(knee), Gokhan Toure(knee) and James Collins(muscular) are doubtful while Sam Byram(hamstring) and Diafra Sakho(hamstring) are guaranteed absentees. Reece Oxford has returned to training but he will not be rushed back to field this weekend.
Mike Phelan has no new injury problems to worry about. Dieumerci Mbokani, who was sent off in Hull’s EFL Cup tie against Newcastle, is back for selection after serving a three match ban. Phelan might consider some changes in his starting XI with midfielder Ryan Mason pushing for a start.
We are rooting for a 2-0 West Ham win.
