West Brom Albion v Watford – The Hawthorns – 3rd December, 2016 – EPL Preview
Watford have managed to stay in the top half of the EPL Table despite some less-than-inspiring performances of late. A 0-1 loss to Stoke City (thanks to a own goal by keeper Heurelho Gomes), a shaky 2-1 home win against Leicester before that and one of the worst trouncings of the season at the hands of Liverpool have left Walter Mazzarri’s men a less-than-confident lot going into Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Bromwich at the Hawthornes.

For the visitors, center-back Miguel Britos will miss out on Sunday’s game having earned a red card in last week’s game against Stoke City. A recovering Younes Kaboul should be fit enough to fill in the shoes of the expelled Britos at the back. Also on yellow cards are left-back Jose Holebas, mid fielders Valon Behrami and Nordin Amrabat. The Watford defence have had serious issues of indiscipline and inefficiency of late. For a side on the 7th spot of the EPL rankings they have conceded more than goals than a 15th placed Middlesbrough. Their tally of 21 goals conceded is just two less than bottom-placed Sunderland’s 23. On the scoring front too, Walter Mazzarri’s men seem to have lost their plot. The Capoue-Deeney-Holebas combine that helped Watford get as many as 12 goals from their first 7 games have managed to net in a measly five in their last 6 outings. Mazzarri will probably go in for his usual 3-4-3 formation and choose a starting XI that could look like this: Heurelho Gomes(goal); Younes Kaboul, Sebastian Prodl, Adrian Mariappa; Daryl Janmaat, Valon Behrami, Etienne Capoue, Jose Holebas; Nordin Amrabat, Troy Deeney, Roberto Pereyra.
West Brom vs Watford Predictions
Tony Pulis’s men have recovered satisfactorily from the 0-4 drubbing they got from Manchester City in October. November saw the Baggies beat reigning champions Leicester City 2-1, followed by a convincing blanking of Burnley 4-0 and a avoidable draw of 1-1 against a lowly Hull. West Brom’s record at home have been mixed. They have lost two out of the six games, drawn two and won two , which are identical to their showings from away games. Watford have a very similar track record to their upcoming opponents, the only difference being that the Baggies have conceded 4 less goals at 17. For a shaky Watford defense, the likes of Gareth McAuley and Salomon Rondon who are top scorers with four goals each would definitely pose a threat. Nacer Chadli, their key man upfront and a top scorer still looks doubtful not having fully recovered from a knee operation. In the light of this, the starting Xi for West Bromwich with a 4-2-3-1 formation could probably be: Foster (goal); Dawson, McAuley, Evans, Nyom; Fletcher, Yacob; Brunt, Morrison, Phillips; Rondon
Watford had won 0-1 on their last trip to the Hawthornes in April 2016, but bookmakers are expecting that result to reverse this time around. For Baggies this could be a good opportunity to collect three points, move up from their current 8th spot and exchange places with Watford on the Premier League table.
