A dark cloud of uncertainty lurks over the Liberty Stadium as the Swans await a visit from Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve. Swansea hierarchy decided to part ways with manager Bob Bradley following the team’s 4-1 thrashing at home against West Ham on Boxing Day. The American managed to win only twice in his eleven-match managerial stint at Swansea and left the club second from the bottom and four points from safety. Swansea are yet to decide on Bradley’s successor, who will be the club’s third manager in a span of twelve months. Till then first team coach Alan Curtis will play an interim role alongside Bradley’s assistant manager Paul Williams.
Bournemouth’s Boxing Day trip to Stamford Bridge proved fruitless as the Cherries failed to cope with the hosts even though they lacked two of their most influential players-N’Golo Kante and Diego Costa. Their 3-0 defeat at West London was their third one in a row and it was the fifth time in their last six matches that they conceded a minimum of three goals. Eddie Howe would definitely be looking to stop the leak in the back ahead of his side’s trip to Swansea.
TEAM NEWS
- Swansea City
Ki Sung-yueng is yet to be declared fit as he recovers from a toe injury. Jefferson Montero was stretchered off the pitch with a knock during the West Ham game and is still doubtful for Saturday. Fernando Llorente might replace Borja Baston in the starting lineup.
Doubts: Ki Sung-yueng(toe), Jefferson Montero(knock)
- AFC Bournemouth
Bournemouth don’t have any latest injury concerns. Junior Stanislas is expected to return in the first XI after being sidelined for weeks by an ankle injury.
Injury: Lewis Cook(ankle)
PREDICTION
Bournemouth have a cushion of seven points to safeguard themselves from an imminent relegation threat but Swansea will sink deep into the mire if they suffer another defeat at home on Saturday. The pressure will obviously be on the hosts but, as we have already said, Bournemouth is struggling to keep their opponents from scoring; which could open a window of opportunity for the hosts. It’s hard to call but we reckon on seeing a scoring draw at Liberty Stadium.
