Rock bottom Sunderland will host Tottenham Hotspurs on Tuesday night hoping for an upset to kick-start a move out of the drop zone. David Moyes’s men have been regular residents of the relegation zone since September and the manager is very much aware that the next few matches might define the future for his team. The Black Cats produced another impotent display last week as they suffered a 2-0 defeat against West Brom at Hawthorns. Sunderland failed to create clear cut opportunities and were ruled out of the game within the first 36 minutes as the Baggies raced up to a 2-0 lead. David Moyes attempted a three men backline, probably being inspired by Chelsea and Tottenham, but it didn’t prove much useful for him.

Tottenham fought back courageously to salvage a draw at Etihades stadium last week. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City took advantage of two horrendous mistakes from Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and took a 2-0 lead shortly after the interval. Dele Alli pulled one back before Son Heung Min equalized in the 77th minute. This was obviously not the performance Mauricio Pochettino would highlight as one of his team’s best but he would be more than happy to have salvaged an important away point without playing their A game.

PREDICTION

Tottenham might not have been their best in their last away game but they did won convincingly in their previous two away matches; having won 4-1 in both of them.  Tottenham could be back in menacing mood against Sunderland, who have conceded 42 goals in 22 matches. We are rooting for an easy Spurs win.
