Southampton vs Sunderland Betting Tips, Predictions, and Match Preview

Preview

Looking ahead to this fixture, Sunderland fans could certainly be forgiven for feeling a distinct sense of foreboding while they make the long journey down to the South Coast to take on Southampton at St. Mary’s. In this fixture two seasons ago, Sunderland ended up reimbursing the travelling support who made the 650-mile round trip. They saw their team absolutely schooled on the pitch, with Saints coming away 8-0 winners. Read on to find out more betting tips for this interesting fixture.

While a repeat of that result seems unlikely, it’s difficult to see the Mackems coming away with anything from this game. Neither team have massively threatening early form, but Sunderland haven’t won a game in August in years – Tips Daddy thinks Southampton will grab the three points and continue the tension on Wearside. Coral have a Southampton win at 8/13, and that is surely the most likely outcome.

Prediction from last week’s performances

On Friday, Southampton travelled to Old Trafford and fell short to the tune of 2-0, with a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic giving Man United the points. Saints looked OK, but unfortunately for them Jose Mourinho’s men were in fine fettle. There didn’t seem to be anything in Southampton’s performance to ring any major alarm bells though, and the fans will certainly be hoping for their boys to start making some steam and pulling themselves up the league ladder.

Sunderland, too, played quite well in the Wear-Tees derby on Sunday, and were indeed the better team for large portions of the game. Visitors Middlesbrough just took it on finishing, with a brace from Christian Stuani. The first of them was a truly great goal. David Moyes still seems to be finding his feet at the club, and has warned the fans that another relegation battle could well cast its cloud over the Stadium of Light this season.

Couple two opening defeats with ongoing issues off the pitch, Moyes has some real battles to get under control before he can really start showing his flair in the Sunderland dugout. This game would be a truly difficult one to turn the corner.

Betting Tips of the Match

Tips and predictionsRecent history dictates that there will be goals here – Sunderland conceded two at home to a newly promoted side – no disrespect intended to Middlesbrough – and while Saints have scored only once so far this is exactly the sort of game they will be looking for to get firing.

Tips Daddy recommends backing Over 2.5 goals, with Coral offering that at 11/10.
