Liverpool vs Plymouth Betting Tips
League-Two outfit Plymouth Argyle make a trip to Anfield on Sunday afternoon with the hopes of making further progress in the FA Cup. The Pilgrims have eliminated Mansfield and Newport to reach the third round of the competition but now face a mammoth task of overriding Jorgen Klopp’s Liverpool to survive in the competition. History is against Derek Adam’s side but he would be hoping his side would cause an upset at Anfield, a ground where they are yet to win. Plymouth were dethroned as the leaders of League Two by a 1-0 away defeat against Barnet on Monday. Plymouth are currently second in the league trailing Doncaster by four points but have a game in hand.
Liverpool will look to maintain their unbeaten record against fourth tier teams in the FA Cup when they welcome Plymouth on Sunday. Liverpool had an unexpected stumble on their title race when they were held to a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light on Monday. The Merseysiders took the lead twice against Sunderland but failed to see off the Black Cats as they handed out two penalties to their opposition. Jermain Defoe made no mistake to make use of the lifelines awarded to his team and snatched away a point from the visitors. A Tottenham win over Chelsea later on meant Liverpool had missed out on a golden opportunity to reduce the gap with Chelsea to only three points.
These teams don’t share much history and will be playing against each other after a whopping 55 years. Plymouth have only won twice against Liverpool and both of their victories came at Home Park, their home-ground. Plymouth have to rewind more than 60 years to revisit their last win against the Reds in fact, they haven’t won any top tier teams since 1984, when they had won 1-0 at the Hawthorns. Therefore, Liverpool are the obvious favorites here. But Liverpool’s shocking draw against League Two side Exeter City would serve as a source of inspiration for Plymouth fans. Klopp is likely to choose an inexperienced side once again, given an EFL cup semifinal ahead and a visit to Old Trafford in the following week. Still, we’d root for a Liverpool win.
