Preview

Liverpool look to continue their resurgence in form when they host Hull City on Saturday for only the second league game at Anfield this season.

Liverpool v Hull City

Under 2.5 goals 7/5 – the last three meetings between the sides have produced a combined total of three goals – so it’s natural to assume that this represents a reasonably safe bet.

Draw 5/1 – Despite Liverpool’s recent results, dropping points at home to Hull may not seem improbable. Jurgen Klopp’s side have typically struggled against teams who sit deep and absorb pressure, which will certainly be the case at Anfield.

 Predictions: Recent form

Liverpool’s performances have ranged from the sublime to the dreadful already this season – fantastic wins over Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea tempered by a dreadful performance in their loss at Burnley, while they’ve also attained a decent point at Tottenham in what was a testing opening few weeks to the campaign.

Hull, who were many people’s favourites to not only be relegated but to finish bottom of the table, made a flying start with back-to-back wins over champions Leicester and away to Swansea. They put up an admirable showing against Manchester United before going down in injury time, and have followed that up with a draw at Burnley followed by a heavy defeat at home to Arsenal.

Football tips: Head-to-head

Somewhat surprisingly, Liverpool have only won one of their last five meetings with Hull. The Tigers did not concede a goal against Liverpool in their last season in the top flight (2014/15) – winning 1-0 at home and holding the Reds to a goalless draw at Anfield.

Hull have never won at Anfield but did also pick up a 2-2 draw in their debut season in the Premier League in 2014 and have won both of the last league games between the two at the KCOM Stadium.

Betting tips

Under 2.5 goals 7/5 – the last three meetings between the sides have produced a combined total of three goals – so it’s natural to assume that this represents a reasonably safe bet. Hull will look to defend well and break up the game, with the aim of keeping the game as low-scoring as possible.

Draw 5/1 – Despite Liverpool’s recent results, dropping points at home to Hull may not seem improbable. Jurgen Klopp’s side have typically struggled against teams who sit deep and absorb pressure, which will certainly be the case at Anfield. Hull do have a goal threat and will be encouraged by their unbeaten spell on the road to date.

Liverpool vs Hull: Team news

Liverpool should be unchanged from their win at Chelsea, with Daniel Sturridge leading the line with James Milner and Dejan Lovren retaining their places in defence.

Jake Livermore will miss out for Hull through suspension with Ryan Mason – a new signing from Tottenham – likely to replace him in central midfield.
