Leicester vs Porto

Leicester’s first ever home game in the Champions League sees them welcome Portuguese giants FC Porto to the King Power stadium as they look to build on their opening day win at Club Brugge.

Leicester City v FC Porto Tips

Anytime goalscorer – Islam Slimani 15/8 – The striker was nicknamed ‘the Dragon Slayer’ in Portugal such was his goalscoring record for Sporting CP against Porto – six goals in six games, including signing off with a goal in his last match for the Lisbon club, against Porto, last month. You wouldn’t bet against him doing it again.

Over 2.5 goals 43/10 – Porto have already scored three goals or more on four separate occasions this season, while Leicester have conceded four goals in three of their last five matches, and carry quite an attacking threat themselves on the counter. Expect a minimum of three goals in this tie.

Predictions: Recent form

Leicester come into the tie fresh from a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Manchester United and whilst the Red Devils may have clicked at the right time, conceding four goals in less than twenty minutes was extremely worrying for Claudio Ranieri’s men.

The Italian was baffled afterwards at the manner in which his side conceded the goals and also how they totally lost their shape and discipline. It followed on from their League Cup exit at the hands of Chelsea earlier in the week where they threw away a 2-0 lead to concede four, albeit with two of those coming in extra time.

Those followed on from back-to-back 3-0 victories, including their opening Champions League tie which sets them up well in what appears to be a favourable group.

Porto have begun their season in indifferent form – after impressively dismissing Roma in the preliminary stages for Europe, they were held to a home draw by FC Copenhagen. Their domestic form is also patchy – they lost at Sporting Club and were recently held to a draw at lowly Tondela.

Football tips: Team news

Leicester are expected to be without goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as Ron-Robert Zieler continues to deputise for the Dane, who has a groin strain. Midfield duo Matty James and Nampalys Mendy are also unavailable for the Foxes.

Porto’s key midfielder Sergio Oliveira is still out with an injury suffered in August, but other than that they will take a full-strength squad to the Midlands.
