Football tips: Recent form

Chelsea’s 3-0 win at home to Burnley in round three saw the London Blues temporarily go top of the league and at that point, they and Hull were two of only four sides to boast 100% records. Later that afternoon, Mike Phelan’s men went down to an injury time Marcus Rashford goal against Manchester United and have picked up only one point in their last four games.

Antonio Conte’s side stumble has been more surprising – defensive errors have cost them in three consecutive fixtures with a draw at Swansea followed by poor defeats against Liverpool and Arsenal. They have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four matches with the returning David Luiz doing little to help patch up a leaky backline.

Predictions: Head to head

The pair have clashed eight times in the top flight since the Tigers won promotion in 2008, and Hull are yet to taste victory with two draws and six defeats. To make matters worse, Hull have only scored four goals in these fixtures so there is little comfort looking at the record books for Mike Phelan’s side.

Betting tips

Over 3.5 goals at 7/4 – Hull have conceded nine goals in their past two games and will face a Chelsea side who will want to blow away their recent run of poor form, while the Blues themselves are vulnerable defensively as shown in their recent outings. A minimum of four goals seems more than likely on Saturday.

Half time/full time, draw/Chelsea at 3/1 – Chelsea have generally started games slowly and have scored late goals – the two recent league clashes with Liverpool and Arsenal saw Conte’s men lose the game early on, but they’ve scored late against West Ham, Watford, Swansea and Leicester – hinting at strong fitness levels.

Match Preview: Team news

Ahmed El Mohamady will miss the game through suspension after his red card against Liverpool but Jake Livermore will return for Mike Phelan’s side.

Chelsea will hope to welcome back John Terry into the side following his three-week absence after picking up an ankle injury against Swansea. Marcos Alonso, Oscar and Michy Batshuayi will all be vying to force their way into contention too.
