Houston Dynamo vs New York City Tips
Houston Dynamo look likely to have a tough task on their hands when New York City arrive at the BBVA Compass Stadium. Dynamo sit bottom of the MLS Western Conference, having picked up only seven wins from 29 games so far this season. New York City’s fortunes are at the other end of the spectrum really – they sit third in the Eastern Conference, tied on points with New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC. The latter do, however, have a game in hand.
The interesting point to note here is that Houston have won their last two matches – 1-0 at Real Salt Lake and an impressive 3-1 win over Portland Timbers. New York won 4-1 against Chicago Fire last time round. This preview takes a look at the match ahead, makes a couple of predictions and offers up some betting tips for your consideration.
Houston Dynamo vs New York City Betting Tips: Winner
Given Houston’s recent form it is easy to see them trying their hardest to get something out of this match. They wouldn’t be bottom in the Eastern Conference, as Chicago Fire have five points fewer, but their last two outings have raised a few eyebrows about just what they can do on the pitch – they have looked much better indeed. New York City’s win over the bottom side was preceeded by a good draw with Western leaders FC Dallas, so both sides have proven themselves very capable on their day.
This match, though, would have to be put in favour of the visitors. Their season overall has just been so much better and so consistent, and former Barcelona striker David Villa has been in red hot form. He has scored 19 goals this season, linking up so well with former Juventus legend Andrea Pirlo who has 10 assists. Thomas McNamara could also be influential for the visitors – five goals and nine assists mean he has a habit of getting involved in the goal mouth action. Make a New York win one of your predictions, and those odds are 6/4.
Houston Dynamo vs New York City Betting Tips: Both Teams To Score?
If we are looking at players capable of finding the net, the obvious betting tip to back would have to be David Villa. At the age of 34 he still looks sharp and clinical in front of goal, so he would be one of our top predictions to find the net at some stage. We actually believe New York City will keep a clean sheet in this one. Backing “No” in the “Both Teams to Score” market will net you odds of 11/8.
Houston Dynamo vs New York City Players Predictions
As well as Villa, Pirlo and McNamara, New York City have Frank Lampard as well. Always such an influential figure during his time in England, it took a while for him to find his feet in the States but he is now showing the fans just what he can do. He has 12 goals so far as well, so as long as he is playing there will be a threat on the opposition’s goal.
Houston’s top scorer has five goals this season, considerably less than either of New York City’s top two. That man is Andrew Wenger, but five goals from 27 appearances really isn’t a stat that New York City need to be too worried about as long as they do a professional job. Houston do have a real talisman in the midfield in the guise of Boniek Garcia, though. He has nine assists to his name so far, so he may be a thorn in NYC’s side if they want to keep Dynamo quiet on the scoring front.
