Derby vs Newcastle Betting Tips

Despite being one of the pre-season promotion favourites, Derby have started the campaign slowly with just one league win in five seeing them only a point above the relegation zone!

Newcastle began the season as odds-on title favourites, with many seeing their instant return to the top flight a question of when and not if for the campaign.

Two early back-to-back defeats was a rude awakening, but three successive wins have steadied the ship and put the Magpies back among the leading sides.

Betting tips

The first ever league clash between neighbours Derby and Burton Albion ended in a 1-0 victory for the Brewers as Derby’s attacking bluntness once again showed.

The visitors had two-thirds of possession at the Pirelli Stadium, but could not make it count.

Goals in each half from Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey gave Newcastle a third straight league win as they defeated 10-man Brighton at St. James’ Park.

Our prediction is for a Derby win

Despite spending a total of close to £83m on new arrivals in the calendar year and winning their last three matches, Newcastle are still fragile. It is to be expected that such mass upheaval will take months before eventually coming to fruition.

Coupled with a feverous home crowd who are anticipating an overdue performance…

with new arrivals Ikechi Anya, James Wilson and Matej Vydra available, Derby may make a 13/8 bet to triumph seem sensible.

Nigel Pearson’s problems at Pride Park are obvious:

A lack of firepower up front. One goal in five goals is a miserly return, although despite their attacking shortcomings they do have the best defence in the division, conceding only three times.

That alone should ensure that this clash will be competitive and low-scoring with a very real possibility of the game ending scoreless. At tempting odds of 15/2, a 0-0 stalemate could be worth a flutter.

Team news

Alarmed by their lack of quality attacking options, Wilson, Vydra and Anya have been added to the attacking ranks and all will be pushing to start!

But, Jeff Hendrick and Chris Martin were two headline departures for the Rams, so expect a reshaped attack. Both Andreas Weimann and Abdoul Camara are unavailable through injury.

Newcastle should welcome back striking duo Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic, who missed the Brighton game, while Christian Atsu – on loan from Chelsea – could feature.
