Birmingham vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tips

Predictions: First Goalscorer

Goal difference means Birmingham are unlikely to move into the top two with a win – it would take a large swing – but that’s not to say the Blues should ease up. The season is a marathon, after all, not a sprint. In Sheffield Wednesday, though, they are welcoming a very competent and solid side who have an eye on finally returning to the Premier League after what would be a 17-year absence.

Both sides have scored eight goals from their opening seven games, so there certainly could be goals to be seen. Birmingham have had the much more miserly defence though, leaking only five goals compared to the Owls’ nine.

This game should be a tight one – but Birmingham’s top scorer Clayton Donaldson will be looking to add to his three goals so far in this campaign. He is 6/1 to open the scoring, and that certainly doesn’t seem a bad bet. Birmingham haven’t conceded since their 3-1 loss to Wolves last month, so they will certainly be favoured to score first.

Betting Tips: Total Goals Over / Under

As alluded to earlier, Birmingham have a solid defence for sure. Sheff Wed’s isn’t bad either, but doesn’t seem quite as tight. This game may well be a 0-0 or 1-0 of course, but we fancy a few goals in this one. Over 2.5 goals can be backed at odds of 23/20. As long as three are scored, you are a winner – and we can see Birmingham getting two easy. Sheffield Wednesday won’t want to lose ground near the top if they can help it. They will be taking the game to Birmingham, as away teams often do. We can see them netting without thinking too hard!
